This book was more than I hoped for, thank goodness! The writing was better than I expected, along with some of the transitions of the book, what could have been pretty cheesy events actually seemed plausible, and Violet was actually a pretty likeable main character. Unexpected great read! Would recommend!Violet has never been normal. No, she's not talking to herself in the halls, and no she doesn't have problems with social skills. She's not normal in the sense that dead things, mainly those that have been murdered, call out to Violet through death echoes, crying out to her in their own unique ways until she finds them and puts their bodies to proper rest. She's always had to deal with this ability. From the small cemetery in her backyard for the unfortunate woodland creatures she seeks in the forest, to the dead girl she found when she was eight.

Review 1: Summary In the book The Body Finder written by Kimberly Derting. Violet Ambrose has a secret, and only four people know. Violet can hear the spirits of dead. They will come with different sounds like bells or pounding. Kimberly Derting is the author of the Cece Loves Science series, the Body Finder series, the Pledge trilogy, and the Taking series. She lives in the Pacific Northwest, where the gloomy weather is ideal for writing anything dark and creepy.

It hasn't always been easy, but she's managed. The help from her family and her best-friend-since-elementary-school Jay has given her the support she needs, and the knowledge that she is able to openly share her biggest secret with a select few. With summer coming to an end and junior year beginning, Violet has a lot on her mind. First and foremost, the new-found feelings she has for Jay. 3d resistivity inversion software development. They've always been friends, and besides the fact that puberty has made Jay pretty hot over the summer, nothing has, or should have changed between Violet's view of him.

But now she gets butterflies in her stomach just by looking at him, blushes at his touch, and feels bubbles of jealousy rise within her whenever Jay gets flirtatious attention from their classmates. She doesn't want these feelings to ruin the friendship that they have, and so she tries to push them down and distract herself.

And distracting herself shouldn't be too hard now that Violet has found another body.It becomes apparent that a serial killer is out and about with his target being young girls. Violet gets exhausted whenever she uses her gift in such an intense way, but she can't help feeling like she should be doing more to help, like maybe being on the lookout for the serial killer by searching for his imprints, the tags left by a victim's echo that only Violet can sense.Violet knows she has to be careful, especially when it is all to easy to go from being the hunter, to being the hunted.Sidenote: I really liked the small chapters every once in a while with the killer's perspective- it brought the creepiness into fuller effect and I thought it was a great technique to use. “The Echoes,” as Violet calls them, are part of her secret and morbid ability to sense the bodies of murder victims—and their killers. As she struggles to understand the odd ability that has been with her since birth, she is confronted with another albeit more common teenage issue, a budding attraction to her childhood best friend, Jay. When a serial killer invades her town and begins abducting and killing local girls, Violet realizes that her secret ability could save lives and begins a dangerous quest to find the killer. As a suspense novel, The Body Finder delivers. Its premise is believable and intriguing in the context of the story, the pace is fast, and the twists and turns of the plot keep the reader in suspense. The main fault of the book is in Violet’s romance with Jay.

The premise of the romance, from best friend to boyfriend, seems a great love story for the audience but the author spends far too much time on this aspect of the story. The effect is that the book is choppy, fast and suspenseful in parts involving murder, slow, often painfully so, in parts involving the romance. While there are likely many readers who will love the romance angle of this story (Twilight lovers, I am looking at you), plenty more will be turned off by its heavy-handedness.

It starts with a glimpse into Violet's childhood, showing that she's never been an ordinary girl. Through what she describes as echos, Violet can sense dead animals and even bodies. She can also differentiate between something that has died naturally or been killed.

Luckily for Violet, she has only come across a body once. Until now.I love this book and don't know why I didn't read it sooner.

The Body Finder Summary

It has some of my favourite genres (YA, paranormal, mystery/thriller, romance) all in one great read. I love the friendship between Violent and Jay as much as I envy it and how it started when they were kids with the possibility now to develop into something more. Jay is such a great guy and very protective of Violet.

Violet is very sweet and it was easy to feel a connection to her from the beginning. I can't imagine how hard it must be for them to make the transition from best friends to a romantic relationship. Kimberly Derting had fun making me wonder if it would ever become more by teasing me with their hand holding and affection towards each other.I've been on a mystery/thriller kick lately, but always thought YA books in the same genre might have too many restriction and wouldn't be as thrilling because it's aimed at a younger market. Maybe I was wrong or (and I'm leaning this way) Kimberly Derting writes fantastic plots that anyone can enjoy. It's a fast-paced thrilling page turner that I can't wait to continue in Desires of the Dead, where I think things are only going to get more complicated.
